Wellness Support Services – Environmental Public Health

Service Description

Works in partnership with Member First Nation communities to identify and prevent environmental public health risks and provides support and tools to prepare for, manage, and respond to emergency events. Includes: 

  • Environmental Public Health Officer
    • Identifies and prevents environmental public health risks.
    • When public health risks are identified, provides recommendations to reduce risk, community training, education, and awareness.
    • Areas of responsibility include drinking water safety, healthy housing, food safety, wastewater, solid waste disposal, routine and requested public facilities inspections, communicable disease control, environmental contaminants. 
  • Emergency Response Planner
    • Provides advice, support, and guidance regarding emergency responses with five functions that include prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. 
  • Water Quality Monitors
    • Sample and test community treated water systems and individual drinking water systems for bacteriological parameters.
    • Collect, record, and report water results.
    • Sample community treated water and untreated individual and community wells for chemical, physical, and radiological parameters. 
    • Provide basic drinking water education.
    • Communicate any observed well or cistern condition or safety concerns.

Eligibility

Members of the Saskatoon Tribal Council including Kinistin Saulteaux, Mistawasis Nêhiyawak, Muskeg Lake, Muskoday, One Arrow, Whitecap Dakota, and Yellow Quill First Nations.
