Service Description
Operates five cottages that provide care and supervision for children. Each cottage has a Housemother that provides home cooked meals and nutritional snacks. Staff consists of five Cottage Case Managers, 40 Child Care Workers, four Shift Supervisors, and five Security Personnel. Child Care Workers have specialized training in:
- First Aid and CPR Certificates,
- Crisis prevention and intervention,
- Suicide intervention,
- Behavioural management,
- Child and adolescent Development,
- Universal body fluid precautions,
- Administration of medications,
- Life Space Crisis Intervention,
- Mental Health First Aid,
- Safe Food Handling,
- Incident/Critical reporting.
Services include:
- Education Services (Each child is enrolled in the Public or Catholic School Systems)
- Family Outreach and Support Worker (Connects children with extended families, cultural activities, and traditional ceremonies)
- Counselling
- Recreation
Eligibility
Children between the ages of 0 years and 15 years who are: - deemed "at-risk" - in the care of Child and Family Services and/or the Ministry of Social Services - identified with emotional, social, behavioural, psychological difficulties and/or chronic conditions such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and alcohol related neurodevelopmental disorders **Services cannot be provided to young offenders under custody court orders, violent sex offenders, and those exhibiting extreme violent behaviours**
Application Process
Referrals come from Child and Family Service agencies and the Ministry of Social Services. Emergency placements are referred by the Ministry of Social Services.
